Hello fellow home baker and chocolate chip cookie connoisseur! My name is Amanda Julander. I am not a food scientist or a pastry chef, but a wife and mother with lots of mouths to fill with baked goods.
I am the last person to think that I know everything about baking, but I know a lot. I love to try and unravel all the secrets of great pastry chefs. I have had much success over the years “figuring things out” through vigilant research and trial and error. My “chef school” has been the internet, television, magazines, a local college class, and good old fashioned experimenting.
My love of chocolate chip cookies knows no end. I have spent most of my baking experience arriving at a really good chocolate chip cookie recipe. I've had many taste testers over the years that would agree. :o)
Growing up there was always a bag of chocolate chips in the pantry so it was naturally the quickest and easiest chocolate chip cookie recipe to whip up. However, I never seemed to like the cookies once they were cooled and stored away. I quickly found that once I had eaten a bit of the dough and a few fresh cookies out of the oven, I was done. The left over cookies were put away and never thought of again.
In college, I had a roommate that would bake cookies on a weekly basis. They were so delicious! She made chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies to dream about. These were not the cookies of my childhood. They were good! I mean they were still good hours after coming out of the oven. I casually asked her for her chocolate chip cookie recipe one day only to be met with a steely cold response that “she did not share her recipes.” In that moment I believed that it must all be in the recipe. I knew that her little lined index card held the secrets that I wanted.
I never forgot about those golden rich cookies in college. When I began to bake cookies for my growing family I wanted them to be like the college day’s cookies. I spent hours searching on the internet for people willing to share good recipes. I would go straight to the kitchen from my computer chair and bake. All those nights of bleary eyed recipe searching and baking paid off. Many bowls of chocolate chip cookie dough later, I arrived at my own formula for great cookies. Combined with tips and techniques I stumbled across along the way I now have a chocolate chip cookie that is in high demand from friends and family.
One of my all time favorite things to do is help other people be successful. I have developed this web site because I want it to be the definitive web site on chocolate chip cookie making. I want to create the web site that I needed all those years ago. I am happy to say that “I share chocolate chip cookie recipes!” I will share much more than a recipe and great tips, I will share in your success!
