Q. I only have one half cup of all-purpose flour and cant seem to find cookie recipe using only half a cup flour. It's usually 2 1/2 cups of flour or something. What is the ratio of other ingredients needed using a half cup flour?
A. You pose an interesting question as I have never made such a small batch of cookies before. However, it is worth a shot!
One half cup flour would be approximately 1/4 of what you need. So, in the spirit of experimentation, lets cut everything down to 1/4 of the original measurements and see what happens.
Try this:
1/4 cup (1/2 a stick) of butter
1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
2-3 drops vanilla
1 egg (that is as low as that will go. You could try just the egg white.)
1/2 Cup flour
a pinch of salt
1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
1/4 cup chocolate chips
Mix all the dry goods (even the brown sugar) together. Melt butter. Mix all the wet ingredients together, and add melted butter. Mix well. Add to the dry ingredients and mix well.
Working with such a small amount of ingredients will be hard to mix. I suggest you use the best baking tools you have: your hands. Wash them good, and finish mixing the dough with your hands after you have given it a good stir with a spoon. When the dough looks about right, add the chocolate chips.
Bake 375 for 9-10 min. You may only get about 8 cookies.
I will be extremely curious to see how this went for you. I may just even try it myself. Good luck!
