You've probably seen a seven layer bars recipe on cans of sweetened condensed milk and just didn't know their name. Also known as magic bars, hello dolly bars, and seven layer bars they top the list of must have recipes. This is a recipe that you can play with and experiment with a variety of chips and crusts, but the following is the classic recipe. Because they are so gooey (which is NOT a bad thing) lining your 9x13 pan with a piece of parchment paper is recommended. It also helps with cutting perfect squares after completely cooled. Simply lift the parchment out of the pan. Perfect bars, clean pan; who wouldn't love that?
INGREDIENTS:
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350° (F). Melt butter. In a bowl combine the melted butter and crushed graham cracker crumbs. Stir until mixed. Press buttered crumbs into the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Pour sweetened condensed milk over the crumb crust. Evenly layer the chips, nuts and coconut. Bake for 25 minutes or until coconut is golden brown. Cool completely and cut into bars.
OPTION 2: You can also layer all the toppings onto the crust in the pan, and then pour the sweetened condensed milk over everything. Preparing the bars this way gives them a more uniformed appearance, but the taste is still delicious.
