What do I do if my chocolate chip cookie dough is too hard?

by Maha

Q.Help!! What should I do!!

A. Well, hard or dry cookie dough right when it is done being mixed is a result of not having enough moisture in your dough. Perhaps your recipe called for too much flour. Simply start adding a liquid in small quantities until the dough looks like the right consistency. I recommend using milk or water in 1 tablespoon increments.

However, if you have been chilling your cookie dough that is a good thing because your flour has absorbed all the moisture and that makes for a really delicious cookie. Chilled cookie dough is REALLY hard. That is why I recommend forming the cookies before chilling them. That way you just pop the hard little dough balls into the oven.

If you are having one of those forehead smacking moments where you chilled before you scooped that is OK. I will confess I have many such moments....a day. Just let it sit at room temperature until it is scoop-able. You will still enjoy the flavor benefits of chilled cookie dough.
